In over 30 countries across Asia, Africa, and the Caribbean, PSI combats diarrheal disease by educating individuals about purifying drinking water in the home, practicing improved hygiene and offering treatment. PSI’s programs ensure that families have the tools to maintain the health of their children.
PSI is at the forefront of diarrheal disease prevention and treatment programming through its commitment to continuously improving the quality of existing interventions and providing technical assistance in creating new programs. PSI collects and distributes best practices, evaluation data, lessons learned and pilots new initiatives, ensuring that country platforms have access to the most current and relevant data and intervention strategies. PSI also fosters and maintains key relationships within the broader international Child Survival and Safe Water communities.
Vision: As key partner to both local and donor governments and advocate for child survival issues and funding, PSI implements technically strong diarrhea disease prevention and treatment programs to improve the health of children around the world.
Mission: Improve child health by providing PSI country programs evidence-based technical support enabled by an ever expanding and diversified funding base and innovative knowledge management system that facilitates the sharing of lessons learned across PSI programs.
PSI is proud to partner with a diverse group of governments, international and national implementing organizations, multilateral institutions, and the private sector to assure the success of our Diarrheal Disease programs. Some partners include the CDC, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, P&G, UNICEF, USAID and the WHO.
POUZN: The Social Marketing for Diarrhea Disease Control Plus: Point-of-Use Water Disinfection and Zinc Treatment (POUZN) Project is a five-year task order, under the Private Sector Partnerships (PSP) indefinite quantity contract. POUZN works globally to mobilize the private sector for the prevention and treatment of diarrhea among children. POUZN is implemented by Abt Associates in partnership with PSI. Since the beginning of this project in 2005, programs in seven countries have been launched and scaled up.
