International AIDS Conference

PSI attended the XVII International AIDS Conference in Mexico City. PSI was involved in several oral presentations and numerous poster presentations and hosted two satellite sessions.

Additionally, PSI held a press conference on the subject of why male circumcision should be more widely promoted as an effective HIV prevention intervention, with several news outlets picking up the story:

This satellite session showed participants what it’s like to “be a man” in different cultural contexts and how pressure to fit a masculine norm affects men’s risk for HIV. Participants interacted with exhibits that highlight issues related to masculinity in developing countries.

This satellite session examined why the struggle to expand access and use of the only available proven HIV prevention technologies- male and female condoms- appears to be losing momentum. The session began with a presentation highlighting a successful case study of comprehensive condom programming and followed with a facilitated discussion with individuals, government representatives and donors.
