AIDSMark's End of Project Website:
Lessons Learned from a Decade of Innovative Marketing for Health

AIDSMark was a global initiative funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), managed by Population Services International (PSI) and six international partners: DKT, FHI, IPPF, ICRW, MSH and PATH. The goal was to mitigate the global impact of the HIV epidemic through social marketing of HIV prevention products and services. AIDSMark provided technical assistance and funding opportunities for HIV interventions in 58 countries from 1997 to 2007.

AIDSMark enabled PSI and its partners to accomplish the following:
  • Start new HIV prevention programs in 9 countries;
  • Integrate HIV prevention services and products into existing programs (e.g. female condoms and lubricant);
  • Scale-up social marketing programs to reach greater proportions of vulnerable communities;
  • Build local capacity to design,manage, and evaluate state-of-the-art social marketing interventions for HIV prevention.

Lessons learned from AIDSMark’s diverse programs increase our understanding of the complexities surrounding HIV prevention. By sharing best practices as well as challenges encountered, PSI and partners hope to inform and improve evidence-based HIV continued programming efforts to address HIV/AIDS. Lessons documented throughout this site cover a broad and diverse group of prevention approaches and illustrate AIDSMark’s contributions to cutting-edge HIV prevention efforts.
