Esther comes to PSI from the BBC World Service Trust, where she was a regional research manager for projects in Afghanistan, and across the Middle East and Africa. Prior to working at the BBC, Esther held various posts in the UK Government Social Research Service in England and Scotland and worked as a Research Fellow at Glasgow University. In these positions, her research informed and evaluated the impact of Government policy on drug and alcohol use. Esther's work has involved a range of methodological approaches, including large scale surveys, process and impact evaluation and qualitative formative, pre-testing and evaluative research including ethnographic methods. Esther holds a BA (Hons) in Sociology, and a Masters in Criminology and Criminal Justice. She has authored and co-authored a number of journal articles and papers on social policy and development issues, including the provision of drug treatment services in prison- and community-based settings. Esther is based in Bangkok, Thailand.
