Africa Malaria Day—April 25, 2001

Every Day is Africa Malaria Day for PSI

AFRICA—On April 25, Africa Malaria Day will be observed to focus attention on this deadly disease and the efforts currently underway to defeat it. One child dies of malaria every 30 seconds. Malaria kills more people every year than any other infectious disease except HIV/AIDS. The most affordable weapons in this fight are insecticide-treated mosquito nets (ITNs), which protect people from malaria mosquito bites while they sleep. In collaboration with ministries of health, PSI has sold over one million nets and almost two million treatment kits in nine countries in Africa.
