PSI Wins AIDSTAR WASHINGTON, DC, June 5, 2007 — The US Agency for International Development (USAID) has awarded a five-year AIDS Support and Technical Assistance Resources Indefinite Quantity Contract (called AIDSTAR) for HIV/AIDS prevention, care and treatment to an international team lead by PSI with a projected ceiling of $500 million. It is anticipated that USAID will award eight such contracts. The receipt of an AIDSTAR contract allows an organization to bid on these future opportunities. AIDSTAR will be used as a global funding mechanism through which the US government can procure contract services to provide technical assistance and implementation support along the entire continuum of HIV/AIDS prevention, care and treatment, and AIDSTAR contractors will build in-country technical and management capacity to sustain these services. The awards will contribute to the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) in mitigating the impact of AIDS in both PEPFAR focus countries and other countries. The PSI team activities will cover the following eight areas: • Prevention PSI’s AIDSTAR consortium includes thirteen organizations representing the highest degrees of expertise in these areas. PSI’s major partners include: Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University; Africare; Booz Allen Hamilton; Cicatelli Associates; Christian Aid (a British non-profit organization); Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia University - International Center for AIDS Care and Treatment Programs; IntraHealth; Mt. Sinai School of Medicine; New York University School of Medicine, Center for AIDS Research; Overseas Strategic Consulting, Ltd.; the Population Council; QED; and The Mitchell Group.
