MTV Presents Levi's Jeans Staying Alive Concert in Association with YouthAIDS, as well as additional HIV/AIDS awareness programs and PSAs, is being offered rights free to broadcasters worldwide to get positive health messages out to the widest audience possible with more than 60 broadcasters already signed up to transmit the specials. The concert line-up will also feature performances by Alicia Keys from Cape Town with local acts to be announced soon, along with Dave Matthews and Missy Elliott from Seattle. It is estimated the concert special and other programming will be seen by a potential global audience of more than two billion people, including broadcasters such as SABC in South Africa, Futura in Brazil, BET in the U.S., NHK in Japan, France 2 and ERTU in Egypt, as well as all MTV channels in the Asia Pacific, Europe, Latin America, North America and Russian seen in more than 377 million households in 166 countries. "The fight against HIV/AIDS will only be won on the battlefield of the mind," said Marthinus Van Schalkwyk, Premier of the Western Cape. "Drugs, vaccines, and medical breakthroughs are critical, but awareness and attitude are the keys to victory. This concert is a powerful vehicle which will raise awareness levels in an audience of billions." In addition to the concerts, the Protect Yourself Youth Forum will take place at Experience Music Project in Seattle on November 4. The forum will be a 75-minute off-air interactive event that brings sexual health experts and information on HIV/AIDS to 400 high school students. Hosted by MTV U.S. VJ Quddus, the forum's partners include Lifelong AIDS Alliance, Seattle Public Schools, Levi's® Jeans, the Paul G. Allen Charitable Foundation, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Population Services International's YouthAIDS, the MTV U.S. campaign Fight For Your Rights: Protect Yourself, AT&T, Sexuality Information and Education Council of the United States (SIECUS) and Advocates for Youth. Media coverage will be welcome at the forum. The Cape Town and Seattle concerts are being made possible by funding from Levi's® Jeans, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the Paul G. Allen Charitable Foundation, in association with PSI's YouthAIDS program. UNAIDS acts as the partnership's advisory. The unique partnership aims to fight the stigma and discrimination surrounding HIV/AIDS, prevent further infections and empower youth to make informed decisions. MTV recently signed a memorandum of understanding with the European Broadcasting Union, the largest association of public service broadcasters, to distribute its HIV/AIDS awareness programming to 70 member broadcasters in 51 countries reaching 290 million households. Westwood One radio network, in conjunction with Westwood One's MTV Radio Network, will distribute the Staying Alive concert to radio stations worldwide.
