Male Circumcision Kit

Recent scientific studies prove that male circumcision can reduce the risk of heterosexual HIV infection in men by as much as 60 percent. These findings, together with an exploration of options for provision of high quality male circumcision services, have inspired PSI to develop a male circumcision kit. The purpose of the kit is to standardize the quality assurance process and increase provider access to sterile products. The kits guarantee that medical providers are equipped uniformly and adequately for each circumcision. Contents of the kit include sterile needles, surgical gloves and pain relief medication.

Society for Family Health (SFH), PSI's local affiliate in Zambia, integrated MC services and kits into HIV counseling and testing (CT) in September 2007 and plans to scale-up this program by incorporating MC into additional public and private facilities.

SFH/South Africa, PSI/Lesotho and PSI/Swaziland are conducting communication campaigns to promote MC as well as HIV counseling and testing for men before they undergo the procedure.
