Engaging Technology for Health Impact
Educating hard to reach populations on healthcare always poses challenges. In Lesotho, Vodafone Foundation worked with PSI/Lesotho to identify local partners to provide care or treatment to children and pregnant women exposed to HIV. Mobile clinics teamed-up with existing community health workers to provide a suite of services to families. By bringing the care closer to the community, the project was able to increase the availability and access of services. To reduce the loss of follow up that often occurs post diagnosis, lab result turnaround times were greatly reduced by the use of mobile data services. An alert system was implemented to ensure patients and health care teams were able to access information quickly so that a treatment plan could be implemented as soon as possible.
