We are partnering with Woman Care Global to use social marketing to promote vaginal rings in select countries.
As the first long-acting reversible contraceptive method to be controlled by the user, vaginal rings hold great potential in reducing unmet need for family planning.
Progesterone Only Vaginal Ring
The PVR offers a safe and effective option for breastfeeding mothers, who account for 17 percent of women with an unmet need for family planning, adding up to 25 million women worldwide.
The PVR, also developed by the Population Council, functions by slowly releasing small amounts of progesterone into the bloodstream and should be replaced every three months. It provides up to one year of protection against pregnancy, provided the woman breastfeeds a minimum of four times per day. After one year of use, if a woman wishes to continue using contraception, she should no longer rely on a progesterone only method.
