PSI measures its health impact with the DALY (disability-adjusted life year). One DALY equals one year of life lost due to illness or death.

At PSI, we avert DALYs, meaning that we work to prevent the loss of one year of healthy, productive life. We also refer to DALYs as years of life saved. Cost effectiveness of PSI’s interventions can be estimated by combining cost data and DALYs averted.
