Project Activities and Highlights
|
HIV/AIDS
|
| • |
INNOVAIDS is a Southeast Asia regional project that aims
to:
— Increase access to HIV/AIDS risk reduction products/services
— Increase informed demand for HIV/AIDS products/services
— Improve capacity to implement HIV/AIDS prevention interventions
|
| • |
Launched in October 2003, INNOVAIDS II builds on the
original project by linking the resources of Social Marketing Organizations
(SMOs) in six Mekong countries to greatly expand access to HIV/AIDS
prevention information, products and services among low-income and
high-risk populations. The three-year initiative provides funding
and technical support for SMOs to design, develop, and deliver:
quality condoms (male and female), water-based lubricants, pre-packaged
therapy for treatment of sexually-transmitted infection (STI), voluntary
counseling and testing (VCT) and products/services to reduce drug-related
HIV risk. |
| • |
INNOVAIDS also supports the design and delivery of
tactical communication strategies to motivate and sustain healthy
behavior among its target populations. These strategies mix creative
media with peer education and professional counseling to: improve
knowledge and HIV risk assessment; prevent the adoption of high-risk
behaviors; heighten the appeal of HIV/AIDS products and services;
decrease the stigma of using HIV prevention products; and ensure
correct usage of prevention products. |
| • |
Working on the premise that good health is essential to reducing
poverty, and that HIV/AIDS is a cross-sectoral issue, the regional
project has developed in a way that results are rapidly disseminated,
easily replicated, and ultimately translated into policies that
create an enabling environment for more and better HIV/AIDS prevention.
The project frames the interventions into a coherent and measurable
model that can be adopted by other social marketing organizations
and the results shared by the various Ministries of Health in the
intervention countries. |
