1. ADOLESCENTS 360
Adolescents 360 will increase voluntary modern contraceptive use among adolescent girls, 15-19 years old, in Tanzania, Ethiopia and Nigeria. The project fuses user-centered design, developmental neuroscience, social marketing and cultural anthropology and will engage teens in the design of solutions that respond to their needs. Adolescents 360 is funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation.
2. YOUTH ALERT!
Broadcast from PSI Malawi’s office, the KfW-funded Youth Alert! is a weekly radio show that is written, produced and hosted by young people, covering safe sex, relationships and HIV prevention. Youth Alert! producers derive content and inspiration from youth themselves through a youth advisory board, active Facebook page, community-based discussions and road shows. PSI runs 520 radio listeners clubs across Malawi and links radio programming to youth-friendly health services.
3. CHICAS EN CONEXIÓN
With support from Maverick Member Vicki Sant’s Summit Foundation, Chicas en Conexión is a girl-centered program that adapts Population Council’s Abriendo Oportunidades program for girls living in marginal areas in the Valle de Sula. The program creates safe spaces for girls to engage in weekly workshops created and led by young female mentors on topics ranging from gender equality and education to sexual and reproductive health information and services.
4. DREAMS
PSI is implementing funding through the US government’s DREAMS initiative in South Africa, Malawi, Lesotho, Swaziland and Zimbabwe. In each country, PSI is engaging adolescent girls in the design and delivery of programs that will contribute toward the global goal of dramatically reducing new HIV infections among 15-24 year old girls in the next two years.
5. IGNITE
With funding from the Government of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, PSI’s Ignite project aims to reduce unintended pregnancies, reduce unsafe abortions and prevent transmission of HIV and other STIs among 15-24 year olds in DRC, Haiti and Mozambique. The project will use a total market approach to identify and reduce market deficiencies, while co-creating solutions with girls and young women.
6. MAKING MARKETS WORK FOR YOUTH
In Uganda, with support for the Pfizer Foundation, PSI and its local affiliate PACE Uganda will strengthen private sector service delivery for adolescents and young people across a range of health outlets, and create strong linkages between service delivery and behavior change communication interventions. The project will incorporate an adolescent-centered design approach that meaningfully engages teens and young people in designing a program and solutions for service delivery.
