Worldwide, 2.7 billion people rely on onsite sanitation. Yet, there is still typically no management system in place to deal with the resulting fecal sludge (e.g. septage and pit latrine sludge). The result is that the waste is frequently dumped directly into the urban environment, with significant health and environmental implications. Fecal sludge management (FSM) infrastructure and public services keep fecal sludge out of the environment, but it is a major challenge to create universal sanitation access.
This week PSI joins hundreds of sanitation and fecal sludge management professionals in Chennai, India to share and brainstorm potential solutions, to formulate policy recommendations that promote best practices, and to identify lessons learned in how to make FSM an integral part of sanitation service delivery. We invite you to take part as we discuss PSI’s work in this field during two engaging presentations. And if you’re at the conference, don’t forget to visit our booth throughout the week to learn more about how we are using the power of markets to deliver sanitation and fecal sludge management products and services.
