{"id":4011,"date":"2012-11-12T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2012-11-12T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/psi2030.wpengine.com\/43rd-union-world-conference-on-lung-health\/"},"modified":"2018-05-22T22:24:40","modified_gmt":"2018-05-22T22:24:40","slug":"43rd-union-world-conference-on-lung-health","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.psi.org\/fr\/news\/43rd-union-world-conference-on-lung-health\/","title":{"rendered":"43rd Union World Conference on Lung Health"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>From November 13-17, 2012, PSI will join thousands of program implementers, activists, researchers and policymakers from around the world in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to mark the<a href=\"http:\/\/kualalumpur2012.worldlunghealth.org\/\" target='_blank'> 43rd Union World Conference on Lung Health<\/a>. PSI staff will present posters on its tuberculosis (TB) work in promoting public-private partnerships and case detection in India. <\/p>\n<p>Approximately one-third of the world population is infected with TB bacilli, the microbe that causes the infection. Although TB is a preventable and curable airborne infectious disease, it still kills an estimated 1.8 million people per year, and millions of new infections still occur (8.7 million new infections in 2011).<\/p>\n<p>TB is a disease of poverty, affecting mostly young adults in their most productive years.
