Improved mobile phone services could also bring more up-to-date health information, particularly for pregnant women. Population Services International, better known as PSI, is planning to launch a mobile health information service with telecom operators Ooredoo and Telenor, said Daniel Crapper, deputy country director of PSI Myanmar.<\/p>\n
He said PSI was in discussion with the telecom companies over a mobile phone application that will provide information to pregnant women.<\/p>\n
PSI Myanmar was founded in 1995 with a focus on HIV prevention, and later became involved in other aspects of reproductive health and general health concerns, including dissemination health information to local communities.<\/p>\n
Mr Crapper said the new service would start once the telecom companies had launched their networks later this year. A pilot project is already underway.<\/p>\n
The PSI application will inform users about antenatal care and available health ministry services. “All pregnant women should visit a doctor at least four times before delivery,” said Mr Crapper.<\/p>\n
The service will also provide information about malaria prevention and nutrition.<\/p>\n
