{"id":59332,"date":"2023-06-13T13:05:46","date_gmt":"2023-06-13T17:05:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.psi.org\/?post_type=news&#038;p=59332"},"modified":"2023-06-13T13:10:09","modified_gmt":"2023-06-13T17:10:09","slug":"response-to-congressman-chris-smiths-letter","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.psi.org\/fr\/news\/response-to-congressman-chris-smiths-letter\/","title":{"rendered":"Statement regarding PEPFAR reauthorization and PSI&#8217;s work"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>PSI is a global health non-profit organization working to end HIV, control malaria, improve sanitation, and deliver comprehensive sexual and reproductive health services worldwide, including legal and safe abortion and post-abortion care.&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We have seen the recent letter from Congressman Chris Smith that references PSI, which is erroneous.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>PSI&#8217;s safe abortion work remains separate from US Government funding due to long-standing US laws and regulations.&nbsp;No programs implemented by PSI with funding from PEPFAR (The U.S. President&#8217;s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief) or USAID (United States Agency for International Development) or any other US Government entity include abortion services.&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At PSI, we are committed to upholding both US restrictions AND the laws of the countries in which we operate regarding abortion and post-abortion care.
