{"id":62156,"date":"2024-05-28T16:55:15","date_gmt":"2024-05-28T20:55:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.psi.org\/?post_type=news&#038;p=62156"},"modified":"2024-06-03T17:00:06","modified_gmt":"2024-06-03T21:00:06","slug":"girls-in-10-19-years-age-category-to-be-tested-for-anemia","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.psi.org\/fr\/news\/girls-in-10-19-years-age-category-to-be-tested-for-anemia\/","title":{"rendered":"Girls in 10-19 years&#8217; age category to be tested for anemia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This piece originally ran in <a href=\"https:\/\/timesofindia.indiatimes.com\/city\/lucknow\/girls-in-10-19-years-age-category-to-be-tested-for-anaemia\/articleshow\/110479119.cms\">Times of India<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lucknow: The state health and family welfare department will screen\u00a0girls\u00a0in the 10-19 years\u2019 age group for\u00a0anaemia\u00a0so that corrective measures may be initiated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>The fact came to fore at a dialogue on health organised by the state\u00a0health department\u00a0in association with Centre for Advocacy and Research and Population Services International at the Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences here on the eve of World Menstrual Hygiene Day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mission director, national health mission UP, Pinky Jowel said: \u201cThe department is going to start\u00a0blood testing\u00a0of girls aged between 10 and 19 so that anaemic girls can be identified and treated.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>General manager, national adolescent health programme, UP, Dr Manoj Shukul said: \u201cThe state is committed to act against anaemia under the flagship programme of Anaemia Mukt Bharat. The prevention of anaemia is dealth under the Rashtriya Kishore Swastha Karyakram under which iron supplementation is provided. Now, screening of anaemia would be done through the Rashtriya Bal Swastha Karyakram network,\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jowel said: \u201cBody care during menstruation is an essential part of fundamental freedom. The department is making constant efforts to increase awareness among\u00a0adolescent girls\u00a0and ensure access of sanitary pads to them.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>As per the National Family Health Survey -5, over 27% girls in the 15 to 24 years\u2019 age group in UP did not use safe products during menstruation.
