Here\u2019s a thought: Have an entire family take an HIV test together, in the privacy of their home.<\/p>\n
By having parents, children and even in-laws who may live in your house all test for HIV at the same time, this will do much to reduce stigma that is causing so much fear and heartache in this country.<\/p>\n
If everyone were to accept the reality that HIV is a simple medical condition and not some kind of curse inflicted on people as if they have committed some sin or offence, then the HIV prevalence rate would be reduced.<\/p>\n
More people would test in the understanding that AIDS can be prevented with medication once HIV is detected.<\/p>\n
In this age when HIV is so widespread, loving parents should be concerned about their children becoming infected. Knowing a child\u2019s HIV status would give peace of mind to a parent.<\/p>\n
But even if found HIV-negative, a child must always be encouraged to practice safe sexual behavior to avoid infection.<\/p>\n
Children would want their parents tested, also, so if it comes to pass that HIV is in their parents\u2019 blood their parents can go on a treatment that will ensure they remain present and active in their children\u2019s lives for years to come.<\/p>\n
Knowing HIV statuses also allows families to make plans for treatment for infected members.<\/p>\n
