Through its global health engagement efforts, the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD)<\/a> works with\"\" foreign nations\u00a0to ensure health protection and medical readiness. The DOD helps partner nations build health capacity, combats global health threats \u2013 like emerging infectious diseases and antibiotic-resistant bacteria \u2013 and supports U.S. Government initiatives for humanitarian assistance and disaster relief. The Department of Defense HIV\/AIDS Prevention Program (DHAPP) is responsible for assisting foreign military partners with the development and implementation of culturally focused, military-specific HIV\/AIDS prevention, care, and treatment programs in over 65 countries. Designated as the Executive Agent for DOD HIV support for foreign militaries in 2001, DHAPP is also the DOD\u2019s implementing agency for the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), established in 2003.<\/p>
