In Cameroon, the threat of malaria is year-round, not just during the rainy season. To keep children safe, the government has made the fight against malaria a priority by creating a National Malaria Strategy and investing in prevention, treatment, and elimination efforts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since 2022, the Unitaid Plus Project has supported Cameroon with perennial malaria chemoprevention (PMC) implementation in six health districts in the Central region, including Bafia. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

PMC interventions are designed to be delivered through the Essential Programme on Immunisation (EPI) platform and alongside routine childhood vaccinations, vitamin A visits, and other regular check-ups. This approach makes use of existing health services in the first and second years of life to protect children against malaria and other potentially fatal childhood diseases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cameroon\u2019s successful introduction of PMC and the malaria vaccine into the routine health system in areas supported by the Unitaid Plus Project shows how prevention can be prioritized. And with the right support, health workers and communities are willing and able to adopt new interventions enthusiastically.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Because ultimately, we all share the same goal: healthy children, protected from malaria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
