Sponsored by The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the GHMS conference was held to strengthen connection and learning across the ecosystem and align the future of market shaping interventions.

The conference was grounded in two key resources, The Global Health Market Shaping Lookback, which is a retrospective review of market shaping advances over the last decade, and the Foundations in Market Shaping, which is a collection of fundamental concepts and best practices for successful market shaping.

We left GHMS with the following key takeaways:

Local and regional markets, including manufacturing in LMICs, are essential – We need to look at local and regional markets, including localized manufacturing to strengthen health security and pandemic preparedness and ensure consumers can access the health products they need in times of crisis.

We must improve coordination and cross-sectoral learning – In resource-limited settings, we need to coordinate within the health sector and beyond it to optimize use of increasingly scarce resources. As climate-related health risks rise, we can better integrate pandemic preparedness and health security interventions with routine health programming. For example, we integrated private sector providers and their case management data into malaria elimination efforts across Cambodia, the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Myanmar, and Vietnam through the GEMS project.

As markets become more sophisticated and local autonomy grows, markets are increasingly fragmented and complex – This calls for continuous innovation in products and delivery approaches to reach consumers. For example, we applied a market-based approach to stimulate demand and sustainable use of sanitation products and services to increase access to improved sanitation in Ethiopia.

The global health community has made significant progress in building healthier markets over the past decade. As we look forward to the next decade of climate-induced health challenges and sociopolitical instability, we leave GHMS with a unified commitment to continue shaping markets to meet consumers with the products they want and need.

[2532,2527

post-61423","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","psi-blog-topic-health-security-pandemic-preparedness","psi-blog-topic-hss
["GET
