Scientists also estimate that\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nature.com\/nature\/journal\/v526\/n7572\/full\/nature15535.html\">more than 660 million cases<\/a>\u00a0of the disease were averted thanks to scaling up of prevention and treatment.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"font--body font-copy gray-darkest ma-0 pb-md\">But that progress is in jeopardy. Thanks to decades of using insecticides and drugs to stave off the mosquito-borne disease, malaria has slowly been evolving to get around our offenses.
