{"id":3808,"date":"2010-05-06T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2010-05-06T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/psi2030.wpengine.com\/at-wef-tanzania-president-united-against-malaria-highlight-potential-of-world-cup-for-malaria-awareness\/"},"modified":"2018-05-22T22:26:44","modified_gmt":"2018-05-22T22:26:44","slug":"at-wef-tanzania-president-united-against-malaria-highlight-potential-of-world-cup-for-malaria-awareness","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.psi.org\/pt\/news\/at-wef-tanzania-president-united-against-malaria-highlight-potential-of-world-cup-for-malaria-awareness\/","title":{"rendered":"At WEF, Tanzania President, United Against Malaria Highlight Potential of World Cup for Malaria Awareness"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>By the PSI team at WEF<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On the opening day of the World Economic Forum on Africa, the President of Tanzania and his Minister of Health joined PSI\u2019s partners at United Against Malaria to underline the importance of seizing the opportunities around the FIFA World Cup to deliver a lasting legacy in the fight against malaria.<\/p>\n<p> \u201cThere are countries on this planet that have conquered malaria,\u201d said the President of Tanzania, His Excellency Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete, at an afternoon press conference. \u201cWe too in Africa, if we pool our efforts, we too can succeed in the not too distant future to conquer malaria.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The press conference was jointly hosted by the United Against Malaria partnership \u2013 represented by Right to Play, MTN and Standard Bank Africa \u2013 and the African Leaders Malaria Alliance.  PSI is one of the founding partners of United Against Malaria, which is a partnership of football teams, celebrities, health and advocacy organizations, corporations and individuals who have united ahead of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa to help achieve universal access to mosquito nets and malaria medicine in Africa by the end of 2010. <\/p>\n<p>The UN Special Envoy for Malaria, Ray Chambers, and the head of the US President\u2019s Malaria Initiative, Rear Adm. Timothy Ziemer, also spoke in support.
