On Monday afternoon, some of the world’s brightest and most talented leaders gathered in Dar es Salaam for a three day Summit of the Young Global Leaders (YGLs) in the lead up to the World Economic Forum on Africa. Asked to evaluate a variety of models of change currently being used in Tanzania, including entre- and intrapreneurial change agents from all sectors — civili society, government and private — nearly 350 YGLs were led into surrounding areas of the city to gain a deeper understanding of the context in which these models work in Tanzania. One of only two official non-private sector partners of WEF, PSI joined varying other local organizations to lead two of these “Impact Journeys” — one evaluating PSI’s use of the private sector to increase access to reproductive health services and the other looking at the importance of behavior change communication in creating a culture of use around water purification solution. <\/p>\n
This year, “Impact Journeys” focused on The Girl Effect<\/a> as one successful model of change. Throughout the day, YGLs were asked to view their journey through the eyes of a Tanzanian girl at different stages in her life, paying particular attention to the many barriers she would have to overcome to become a fellow YGL with the World Economic Forum. The aim is that, by gaining a more nuanced understanding of these issues, they can more effectively leverage the power of their diverse skill sets and networks to further place women at the center of the global agenda to create real impact for generations to come.<\/p>\n The photos below were taken by a few of the YGLs to document their “Impact Journeys<\/a>.” Please click on the image to view the slideshow.<\/p>\n
