PSI has a long history of collaboration with government partners in Zimbabwe. Since the inception of its social marketing program in 1999, PSI has worked closely with the Ministry of Health and Child Welfare (MOHCW) and the National AIDS Council to implement HIV prevention programs.<\/p>\n
Building on this strong partnership, PSI began advocating for male circumcision (MC) as an HIV prevention intervention in early 2007. When the Minister of Health announced that Zimbabwe would include MC as part of a comprehensive HIV prevention package, PSI collaborated with the MOHCW in the situational analysis and feasibility study on MC service delivery. Furthermore, PSI provided technical support for the development of the national MC policy, the national strategy and the MC costing study in 2009.<\/p>\n
Beginning in 2009, PSI utilized its own funds to establish a national MC training program, one national training site and five pilot male circumcision sites. These sites, established in collaboration with the MOHCW, each represent a different model of MC service delivery, utilizing both the public and private health sectors.<\/p>\n
