Today, people from all over the world will gather for the start of the 38th annual Global Health Council Conference<\/a> in Washington, DC. Considering the monumental changes our world faces this year, we turn our focus to one: the world population reaching 7 billion. What does 7 billion mean for those of us in the global health world? At the GHC Conference, PSI (Population Services International), along with dozens of other international organizations, will embark on a conversation and hopefully some concrete solutions that addresses this question.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s GHC conference will specifically address non-communicable diseases and how the health world is evolving to accommodate this change in the burden of disease. <\/p>\n

If current demographic changes continue as anticipated, attention must shift to issues associated with increasing urbanization and problems such as violence, childhood obesity and the spread of infectious diseases. At the center of this developing conversation is the issue of balance \u2013 balancing current global health needs and those that will inevitably be upon us with the new generation of young people.<\/p>\n
