Protecting Motherhood and Enhancing Capacity<\/h3>

PSI\u2019s partnership with the Merck Foundation began with a focus on people and a need for increased capacity and knowledge for our global social franchising programs. As the first nonprofit partner to work with the Richard T. Clark Fellowship, a three-month international corporate volunteer program, we received support from 15 Merck employees.<\/p>\n

Fellows spent three months between our Washington, D.C., headquarters and country offices, learning how to advise and gaining valuable insights on franchise opportunities, market development and communication that are shared with us and Merck. Building on this support Merck founded MSD for Ugandan Mothers Program (MUM). This was in partnership with our network member in Uganda, Program for Accessible Health Communication and Education (PACE)<\/strong><\/a> . MUM was launched in 2012 to improve private sector quality, accessibility and affordability of maternal healthcare in some of the poorest and hardest to reach villages of Uganda.<\/p>\n

Merck has also supported PSI in Vietnam to ensure most-at-risk populations gain access to prevention and treatment services for Hepatitis C and to expand contraception choices for women.<\/p>\n
