It raises funds for global health initiatives in low-income countries through taxes on airline tickets and other innovative financing tools. Launched in 2006 by the governments of Brazil, Chile, France, Norway, and the United Kingdom, UNITAID is now comprised of 29 member countries as well as the Bill &amp; Melinda Gates Foundation.
