Sometimes we need to zoom out to better understand the major trends impacting our health. Below, PSI experts discuss emerging health challenges and the successful strategies to overcome them.

Stretching limited health financing

Health crises do not sit in a vacuum. To drive health impact, we must take an intersectoral approach– even amidst limited health financing. Anya Fedorova, Country Representative at PSI Angola, explores how.

Optimizing resources amidst multiple health crises

Simultaneous crises happen all at once, and to ensure sustained healthcare delivery, we must understand how diverse facets inform health outcomes. Ayesha Leghari, Country Representative at PSI Pakistan, explains.

Bringing care closer to communities

Local actors, including regional bodies, national governments, and civil society, design solutions and build locally-rooted institutions to address community-level health needs. And as Bongo Mgeni, Country Representative at PSI Tanzania, shares: it’s this local agency that’s needed to bring quality care closer to people and their communities.

Transforming health systems

Enormous potential remains for health system transformation, but entrenched structures may slow change. Health systems will need to find ways to address persistent challenges – from lack of infrastructure to responding to emerging infectious diseases – to equip individuals to take ownership of their health. As Alex Ergo, PSI Global’s Director of Health Systems, notes: these changes are not just possible, but necessary to achieve Universal Health Coverage by 2030.

Adapting To Digital Transformation

By 2030, 7 in 10 health consumers in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) will be online. But, on its own, increased digital access won’t transform healthcare. Health systems across LMICs need the tools, resources, and support to get emerging technology and digital health solutions into people’s hands. Wycliffe Waweru, Head of Digital Health Monitoring at PSI Global, shares how.

This blog is part of PSI’s Translating the Technical series.
