Throughout the developing world, the incidence of NCDs — including heart disease, diabetes mellitus, cancer, and chronic lung disease — continues to increase dramatically. As with HIV, these diseases disproportionately affect women and are most concentrated among the poor. This brief outlines the key points around the issue of HIV, NCDs and women, and looks into opportunities for learning and integration across HIV and NCD programs. It also discusses what needs to happen next in the fight to eradicate the HIV and NCDs epidemics.
The brief was put together by the Taskforce on Non-Communicable Diseases and Women’s Health, a group of leading organizations working together on a life cycle approach to women’s health through advocacy and technical guidance. PSI is a member of the group.
