The Case of Kuwa Mjanja in Tanzania

In Tanzania, and beyond, Adolescents 360 (A360) is on a mission to crack the code for adolescent and youth sexual and reproductive health (ASYRH) impact. For while the past three decades of global AYSRH programming has yielded a number of notable successes, questions remain about how best to design and implement youth-powered and youth-owned programming.

In 2016, with funding from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation, PSI launched A360, a 4.5-year program that works directly with young people to develop and deliver interventions that aim to increase demand for, and voluntary uptake of, modern contraception among girls aged 15-19 in Ethiopia, Nigeria, and Tanzania.

A360 packaged its experiences into a technical brief that analyzes the strategy and lessons learned to date, presenting a case study of the A360 experience in Tanzania, and offering considerations for similar AYSRH implementation in future settings.
