As Chief Evidence Officer, Des is responsible for ensuring that PSI uses evidence to learn and improve practices internally towards greater health impact, and to package and disseminate that learning externally to contribute to improved global health policy and practice. As a senior vice president at PSI, Des is also responsible for maximizing PSI’s contribution towards global malaria eradication, improving child health and increasing access to sanitation in over 40 countries across Africa, Asia and Latin America.

Des was a lecturer in medical entomology at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine between 1991 and 1998. He has 30 years of experience in the control of vector borne diseases with a principal focus on malaria. His work has focused on scaling up access to insecticide treated nets and quality-assured treatment. He has published numerous papers on entomology, malaria, and written/edited two books on vector control. Des has been with PSI since 1998 and was the country director in Malawi between 2000 and 2003.

Des has a doctorate from the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine. He has lived in Africa for 25 years and in is currently based in Nairobi, Kenya.
