PSI Global

Karen Sommer Shalett serves as Director, External Relations and Communications, and is responsible for helping PSI strategically communicate its thought leadership, advocacy initiatives and global health impact. Karen has more than 20 years experience framing, pitching and executing high-impact communications packages for digital, print, video and live media.

Having been with PSI since 2014, she oversees a team that leverages traditional, digital and multi-media technology to support the work of PSI’s more than 55 countries and network as a whole.

As a journalist for 15 years, Karen covered the economic and cultural transition of the capital city for the Washington Post and DC magazine, the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina for the New Orleans Times-Picayune, which earned her a Louisiana Press Association award, and the global cultural landscape of fashion, art, architecture and design for publications ranging from Conde Nast’s Lucky magazine to the International Herald Tribune.

Just prior to joining PSI, Karen was Editor-at-Large for the Aspen Institute, an educational and policy studies think tank fostering leadership in a nonpartisan venue.
