TCIHC is supported by USAID and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation’s Gates Institute to scale-up proven sexual and reproductive health approaches leading to increased use of modern contraceptive methods amongst all women 15-49 years of age in urban poor areas, with additional emphasis on married and unmarried adolescents and first-time parents 15-24 years of age. TCIHC applies a “business unusual” approach that is demand-driven, evidence-based, scalable and designed to be sustainable from the beginning. The Initiative’s efforts strengthen city-level health systems to reduce preventable maternal, newborn and child deaths among the urban poor in 31 cities and three states of India—Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Odisha.
