Research Ethics Board

PSI is committed to the protection of human research participants, including vulnerable populations. Special protections are in place for vulnerable subjects (for example: children, youth, prisoners, the very ill, and those who are economically and educationally marginalized). Special protections include enhanced efforts to assure comprehension and autonomy in the informed consent process, confidentiality of information, and specific training for research teams in human subjects protection.

The PSI REB is registered with the Office of Human Research Protections (OHRP) and has established Federal-wide Assurance (FWA) with the US Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). This document assures the US federal government that PSI will guarantee compliance with all applicable federal regulations regarding the protection of human research participants. It also mandates that PSI utilize registered REBs or Institutional Review Boards (IRBs) to review and approve all research involving human study participants conducted by, or under its auspices, regardless of the source of funding or location of research, and is designated in the PSI FWA to meet this requirement.
