PSI markets and distributes three household water treatment products in twenty-three countries: safe water solution (SWS), PUR Purifier of Water (PUR), and chlorine tablets. To treat dehydration, PSI social markets oral rehydration salts (ORS) in nine countries. These products also are available in schools and clinics and are distributed by community health workers and bicycle agents in slums and rural areas.
PSI’s safe water communication strategies, which include both commercial marketing and community mobilization, generate awareness about the link between contaminated water and disease, and hence the value of disinfecting drinking water. PSI’s research on people’s knowledge, attitudes and practices monitors message comprehension, behavior change and product use.
