Delivering Clean Drinking Water with P&G Packets
PSI celebrates over ten years of partnership on P&G’s signature health and hygiene program, P&G Children’s Safe Drinking Water (CSDW). Through CSDW, P&G works with partner organizations like PSI to raise awareness of the clean water crisis and provide clean water to people in need.
As a long-term partner, P&G provides support to eight PSI network members. This provides commodity procurement and behavior change education programs, to support household water treatment using P&G water purification technology. P&G’s packets – P&G Purifier of Water – are effective in purifying highly turbid water and are particularly suited for emergency use.
In Uganda, P&G Purifier of Water packets were included in basic care packages for people living with HIV. In Kenya and Ethiopia, PSI ensured the product reached refugee camps in the Horn of Africa; while in Malawi, the sachets have been used as an incentive for women to attend pre-natal health visits, creating demand for household water treatment. In DRC, the packets have been widely used by the government and other partners to address cholera outbreaks.
PSI also manages the institutional sales of the product to various non-government organizations in each country. This ensures access to the packets and is a small income generator for us to fund additional water education programs.
