Delivering Clean Drinking Water with P&G Packets
This year, we are excited to celebrate ten years of partnership on P&G’s signature health and hygiene program, P&G Children’s Safe Drinking Water (CSDW). Through CSDW, P&G works with partner organizations like ours to raise awareness of the clean water crisis and provide clean water to people in need. As a long-term partner, P&G provides funding to ten of our network members for commodity procurement and behavior change education programs to support the provision of household water treatment using P&G water purification technology. P&G’s packets–P&G Purifier of Water– are effective in purifying highly turbid water and are particularly suited for emergency use.
In South Sudan, P&G helps fund teams of community based workers who sell the packets as a livelihood earner in their local communities. In Kenya and Ethiopia, we ensured the product reached the refugee camps in the Horn of Africa, while in Malawi the sachets have been used as an incentive for women to attend pre-natal health visits and to create demand for household water treatment. In DRC, the packets have been widely used by the government and other partners to address cholera outbreaks. We also manage the institutional sales of the product to various nongovernment organizations in each country, ensuring access to the packets and as a small income generator for us to fund additional water education programs.
